No listener accounts
Blindspin requires no user accounts. We do not ask listeners for a name, email address, phone number or other identifying profile information to discover, save or share music. A randomly generated anonymous browser identifier accompanies interaction telemetry; it is not linked to an account. An identifier can still be personal data under some privacy laws, so anonymous does not mean that every technical request is unidentifiable.
Preferences on your device
Saved tracks, deck slots, Daily 5 progress, listening history, genre preferences and local scoring are stored in your browser’s localStorage. They remain on that browser until cleared or replaced, and are not an account or a cross-device library. localStorage also backs up unsent interaction events. A random session identifier is kept in sessionStorage for the current tab session, not as a permanent browser identifier.
You can remove this information by clearing Blindspin’s site data in your browser settings. Doing so removes your local saved music and preferences; it does not reverse contributions already included in community totals.
Anonymous discovery statistics
We record saves, skips, reveals, “show me later” interactions, clip listens and preview failures, including track and artist identifiers, genre when available, timestamps, playback status and measured listening duration. Listening measurements separate active playback from loading, pauses and background playback. Events are sent in small batches to power recommendations, community Heat and weekly and all-time Champions rankings. Failed previews are not listener skips and do not reduce popularity.
Successful batches are removed from the local queue. If a connection fails, a backup of up to 500 events remains for retry for up to seven days. The server keeps event receipt identifiers for seven days to prevent retries from counting twice, without storing a permanent individual swipe history or listening profile. Community counters continue to accumulate; weekly rankings use that week’s activity.
Measuring the listening experience
We measure preview attempts and confirmed playback starts, failures, replays, saves per heard song, first-session saves and time to a first save. We also count successful discovery-card shares or copied links and visits to shared track pages. Shared links contain a public track identifier, not the creator’s or recipient’s identity, saved library or taste preferences. Sharing never changes music popularity. A local yes/no marker records whether this browser has opened a session before; it is not a permanent listener identifier. A signed, same-site session cookie, unavailable to page scripts, authorizes measurement delivery for seven days. Session timing and first-save state remain private for up to seven days after their last update and are removed during subsequent processing. Daily totals remain without individual listening histories. Technical event fingerprints are retained to prevent an accepted event being counted again; these fingerprints are not linked to a listener profile. Clearing site data resets the local first-session marker.
Community ranking samples
Charts use qualified preview starts, saves and completed listens, with minimum samples before podium placement. Private cookie-derived fingerprints limit repeated track actions within each UTC day and are kept for up to seven days, then pruned during processing. They are not permanent listener profiles or proof of a unique human. Chart-day aggregates remain; historical exposure is not invented. Weekly charts start Monday UTC and all-time popularity never resets.
Advertising and voluntary contact
Advertiser applications collect the contact email, brand details, campaign materials, budget and notes that the applicant chooses to submit. These are used to review and manage campaigns and arrange payment, not to create listener accounts. Contact messages may also contain information you voluntarily provide.
Local sponsor selection may use an approximate city supplied in hosting request headers. We do not request your device’s precise location or add this city to your listening events. A city-targeted sponsor is not shown when no matching city is available. BlindSpin’s own promotional cards may appear when there is no eligible paid sponsor.
When configured, Google AdSense and other ad services may use cookies, identifiers, IP addresses and device or browsing information to deliver, measure and personalize ads. Google’s ad script is not loaded without configured publisher and slot IDs. Visit How Google uses information from sites and apps and My Ad Center to learn more and manage preferences. Where required, consent must be obtained before non-essential advertising storage or personalized ads are activated.
Artist submissions and private access
Artists voluntarily provide their name, track metadata, streaming links, private contact email and optional official profile. We keep review notes and ownership evidence for moderation and copyright handling, not listener profiling. Verified management links expire after seven days and can be revoked; only token fingerprints are stored, never plaintext access tokens. Contacts and ownership evidence are not public. Request correction or deletion through our support email. Public playlist exports include approved catalog metadata, ranking context and streaming links, not artist contacts or listener records.
Music providers and external sites
Audio, artwork and track information come from third-party providers. Audius and Deezer are the current music sources; Apple Music and Spotify links or previews, when available, are subject to those services’ own terms. Blindspin may relay provider audio through a streaming endpoint for playback and visualization. Providers, linked websites and hosting services may receive technical request information such as IP addresses, browser details and requested resources.
Sharing, choices and updates
Shared decks and mixtapes put track identifiers in a shareable URL. Anyone with that link can open the selected tracks; no personal profile is included. Avoid putting personal information in messages you share publicly.
